There are two types of quartz bowls available - frosted and clear - both are made from 99.9% pure quartz sand. The frosted bowls come in diameters of 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 and 22 inches, whist the optically clear bowls are available in 130, 140, 150, 160, 170, 180 and 200 mm diameter. Each bowl plays a musical note and within each size there is generally a range of notes available.

The size of the bowl affects the pitch: an 8" bowl produces a much higher pitched note with the note produces by a 14" bowl. In general higher pitches have an uplifting, cleansing effect whilst lower pitches tend to be more relaxing and grounding. We all respond differently to particular sounds, and so the effect on individuals of the same bowl can be quite different..

The larger frosted bowls are considered by many to produce a more powerful sound and tend to hold their resonance longer - they are also easier to play. The smaller clear bowls tend to play at least two distinct notes and produce much lighter clear tomes. Being very lightweight, the clear bowls can be easily hand-held for playing and are ideal for travelling with.

All our bowls are supplied with a ring and a playing stick (either a rubber ball or suede). As the bowls are as individual as you are we do feel it is important for you to hear/play the bowls before purchasing.

The quartz bowl with handle (often referred to as the practitioner bowl) has been specifically designed for therapeutic use. Extremely resonant when played, it can be directed into and around any part of the body to create a cleansing shower of vibrational sound energy.

If you would more information how to use the Singing Bowls we have available the book by Renee Brodie 'The Healing Tones of Crystal Bowls: Heal yourself with Sound and Colour' and CD and Cassette tape of the actual sounds of the bowls being played along with a separate track for each chakra.

“What is important about the crystal bowls is to hear their clear tones and to experience their cleansing effect. Their presence and resonance in our midst help us achieve balance in these times of vibrationary acceleration”
Jonathan Goldman (founder of the Sound Healers Association)
